Five to Watch

STANFORD, Calif. – Jaye Boissiere, Tierna Davidson, Alana Cook, Catarina Macario and Tegan McGrady were each named to the watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, as announced Thursday.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer presented annually to the outstanding male and female players of the year. It is the fourth consecutive season Stanford has had multiple student-athletes on the watch list, with senior Andi Sullivan claiming the trophy after leading the Cardinal to its second national championship in 2017.

The Cardinal's five selections were the most of any school, with four of Stanford's 19 regular-season opponents featuring at least one.

Boissiere, a redshirt junior from Los Altos Hills, California, was the College Cup's Most Outstanding Offensive Player after scoring the winning goal in a 3-2 triumph of UCLA to claim the national championship. A member of the All-Pac-12 second team, Boissiere registered nine goals and 10 assists in 2017.

Cook, a senior who hails from Far Hills, New Jersey, has started all 69 games since her arrival in 2015. A captain in 2017 and member of the All-Pac-12 first team, Cook anchored a defensive unit which surrendered just nine goals last season and led the nation in shutouts with 19, a program record.

Davidson, Cook's partner in central defense for a bulk of 2017, emerged as a key player in the United States National Team during the offseason, becoming the first player since Julie Foudy to play 90 minutes in each of her first five senior caps. A MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist as a sophomore, the Menlo Park, California, native was the College Cup's Most Outstanding Defensive Player and Pac-12 Defender of the Year to go with first-team All-America and first-team All-Pac-12 honors.

Macario, who hails from San Diego, led the nation in points (50) and assists (16) as a freshman, earning ESPNW Player of the Year honors. A MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist in 2017, Macario earned Pac-12 Forward of the Year, first-team All-America and first-team All-Pac-12 honors after leading the Pac-12 in goals (17). She joined Kelley O'Hara and Christen Press as the only Cardinal to register 50 or more points in a season.

McGrady, an attack-minded fullback from San Jose, California, made her first national team appearance on April 8 against Mexico. A member of the All-Region third team and All-Pac-12 second team, McGrady had a career-high five assists in 16 appearances as a junior, including two in the College Cup semifinal to earn All-Tournament team honors.

Stanford has had four winners in the past eight seasons and 18 Cardinal over the past decade have made the watch list or been semifinalists. In 2011, Teresa Noyola became the third consecutive Stanford player to win the Hermann Trophy, following Press in 2010 and O'Hara in 2009. With Noyola's victory, Stanford became the first to have three different winners in as many years.

Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches will vote on their top 15 choices. The list will be narrowed down to three finalists and the winner will be announced in January.
