None Better Than Bing

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Bing, who made eight saves while allowing only one goal in Stanford's two wins this weekend, was named America East Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday for the first time this season and fourth overall in her standout career.

Bing was rock-solid in net for No. 22 Stanford all weekend long. In Friday night's contest against Yale, Bing saved all five shots from the Bulldogs to lead the Cardinal to a 5-0 shutout win. Then, on Sunday against Kent State, Bing came up with three saves to help Stanford pull out a hard-fought, 2-1 overtime victory.

While this is her first honor of the 2018 season, Bing is no stranger to America East awards. The junior from Houston has received player of the week honors four times, was named America East Conference Goalkeeper of the Year for her efforts in 2017, was also an All-America East selection and America East All-Championship Team pick.

In addition to her conference standing, Bing has solidified her reputation as one of the premier goalkeepers in the country. An NFHCA West Region Second Team selection, Bing ranked sixth nationally in 2017 with a .794 save percentage while making 112 saves. Bing is off to a great start in 2018, posting 37 saves with a .787 save percentage through the Cardinal's first eight matches.

Stanford (5-3), which is riding a five-game winning streak, has this week off from competition. The Cardinal will return to action on Friday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. against Pacific, before kicking off America East conference play at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30 when UC Davis visits the Varsity Turf.
