STANFORD, Calif. – No. 15 Stanford dropped a 2-1 overtime decision against No. 11 Syracuse on Saturday night at the Varsity Turf.

Chiara Gutsche's second goal of the night in the first overtime period brought a sudden end to the game, and goalkeeper Kelsey Bing kept Stanford in it with seven saves on the night.

The Cardinal (0-3) entered the break with a 1-0 lead thanks to Emma Alderton, who scored her first goal of the season with the assist credited to Phoebe Crosthwaite. Bing made a key save with Stanford down a player after a yellow card to preserve the lead entering halftime.

The Orange (3-0) responded with waves of pressure to start the second half, resulting in the equalizing goal off the stick of Gutsche. Kelsey Bing made several more key saves, including one in the 55th minute after consecutive penalty corners for Syracuse.

Both teams traded scoring chances down the stretch with the Cardinal having a goal disallowed after a video replay in the 60th minute. The game headed to overtime with the Cardinal down a player after a yellow card to end regulation before Gutsche's strike in the 76th minute ended the contest.
