MINNEAPOLIS – Sam Hiatt's golden goal in the 94th minute gave Stanford a 2-1 victory and a program record with 26 consecutive wins on Sunday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
The Cardinal (4-0-0) was pushed to the brink by the Golden Gophers (3-3-0), which equalized in the 75th minute of regulation to force overtime. Sophia Smith's dangerous effort from outside the area forced a corner kick in the 94th minute, after which Stanford capitalized for its program-record 26th win in a row, a streak which started with a 4-0 win against No. 10 Georgetown on Sept 1, 2017.
Stanford outshot Minnesota 16-2, including a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal, with Beattie Goad opening the scoring in the 20th minute. Tegan McGrady's cross into the box caused problems for the Golden Gophers' defense as an attempted clearance fell to Goad at the top of the box. Her left-footed shot crept inside the far post for her first goal of the season

The Cardinal nearly doubled its lead in the 58th minute as Jordan DiBiasi's long-distance effort was denied by a fine save. Minnesota bagged the equalizer in the 75th minute – it was the first goal allowed from open play by the Cardinal since August of 2017. Hiatt's goal in the fourth minute of the first extra period ended the contest – it was her second career goal in Cardinal colors.
The win was Stanford's 26th straight, a program record which ranks eighth in NCAA history. Previously, Stanford won 25 straight in the 2009 season and from 2011-12. Smith led the Cardinal with five shots while Goad and DiBiasi had three apiece.
