First up in our Cardinal Capsule series is freshman Sam Beskind from Tucson, Arizona.
What is something people may not know about you?
I like to play the piano. My favorite song to play is Hall of Fame by The Script.
At what age did you start playing basketball?
I started playing at the age of five and really liked it from the beginning.
What made you choose Stanford?
The combination of athletics and academics here is great. I have the opportunity to learn at one premiere universities in the world, while playing the sport I love at such a high level for one of the most prestigious programs.
What has been the most interesting experience for you so far at Stanford?
It is very interesting within the dorms to talk to people and see how excellent everyone is in their own field and how much they have already accomplished. You have 18-year-olds who have already given TED Talks.
While you won't declare a major until your junior year, do you have an area of interest in mind you may want do pursue in your studies?
I like the management, science and engineering major track, however I also have a strong interest in politics.
What career goals outside of basketball have you established?
My ultimate goal is to be the President of the United States.
Tell us about the athletic prowess in your family.
My mom was an Olympic high jumper and my dad played collegiate tennis. Sports has always been a big part of my life.
When free time allows, what hobbies do you enjoy?
I like to play ping pong with friends or go to the movies.
What is your favorite movie?
Right now, I would have to say Baby Driver.
If you weren't playing basketball, what sport would you play?
Tennis.
