Eyes On Texas

STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford men's golf team competes for the second time this fall at the Nike Collegiate Invitational, Sunday through Tuesday at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

The No. 20 Cardinal (Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll) opened the season with an eighth-place showing at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club.
 
Stanford will battle another strong field at Colonial. Of the 15 participating teams, five rank in the top-10 and 11 in the top-30.
 
The Cardinal last competed at Colonial in 2016, earning a share of sixth. Senior Maverick McNealy of Stanford won the individual title by two strokes with rounds of 68-66-68 to finish at 8-under 202. It was the 11th win of his career, tying Tiger Woods and Patrick Rodgers for the most in program history. Current senior Brandon Wu tied for 30th.

Cardinal Contingent
 
• Stanford will be represented by senior Brandon Wu, senior Isaiah Salinda, freshman Ethan Ng, junior David Snyder and freshman Daulet Tuleubayev.
 
The Format

• Three days of stroke play with shotgun starts. Schools will compete with five players and count the best four scores each day in the team race. An individual champion will also be crowned.
 
The Schedule

• Sunday, September 30: First round, 7:45 a.m. CT
• Monday, October 1: Second round, 7:45 a.m. CT
• Tuesday, October 2: Third round, 7:45 a.m. CT
 
• Stanford will play the first round with Duke and Vanderbilt and starts at 7:45 a. m. CT.

The Lowdown

• Stanford qualified for the 2018 NCAA Championships for the 11th time in the last 14 years.

• The Cardinal is led by seniors Brandon Wu and Isaiah Salinda. Wu was an All-Pac-12 first team selection in 2017-18 and registered a team-best three top-five finishes and 70.61 scoring average. Salinda earned honorable mention and sparked Stanford at the NCAA's, where he secured a squad-best tie for 15th and was chosen PING All-American honorable mention by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
 
• True freshmen Daulet Tuleubayev from Almaty, Kazakhstan, and Ethan Ng from New York will compete for Stanford. Tuleubayev tied for 27th in his college debut at Olympia Fields.

The Course
 
• Located near the campus of Texas Christian University on the south bank of the Clear Fork of the Trinity River, the course opened in 1936 and annually hosts a PGA Tour event called the Fort Worth Invitational. Many distinguished players have won at Colonial, including Ben Hogan, Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. Hogan captured five victories, prompting the course to be nicknamed "Hogan's Alley."
 
It plays to a par-70 and measures 7,054 yards.
 
Colonial hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, the 1975 Players Championship and the 1991 U.S. Women's Open.
