DAVIS, Calif. –Sophomore Timothy Sah and freshman Sangeet Sridhar each advanced to the quarterfinal round of the singles A Flight with wins Friday as Stanford opened the fall season at the Aggie Invitational. Action continues throughout the weekend at Marya Welch Tennis Center.
Sridhar, the No. 2 overall seed in the A Flight, won his only match of the day. The freshman had a bye into the round of 16, where he made his collegiate debut with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Santa Clara's Vasileios Iliopoulos. Sah posted a pair of wins on the day, recording straight-set victories in both matches. Both will play Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the quarterfinal round as Tuchetta will face Santa Clara's Andrew Gu and Sridhar will match up with California's Dominic Barretto.
Both Cardinal doubles teams won their matches on Friday as Sam Turchetta and Sah cruised past Portland's Carlos Donat and Sema Pankin (8-3). Sridhar and Tomas Kopczynski made their collegiate debut in doubles with an 8-5 win over Pacific's John Horoz Garner and Jonathan Lieu.
Quarterfinal action gets underway Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. Should either of the Cardinal teams advance.
The Aggie Invitational is the first of six tournaments members of the Cardinal will play in this fall.
