Streak Hits Seven

STANFORD, Calif. - Led by a first-half hat trick from Corinne Zanolli and six saves from Kelsey Bing, No. 25 Stanford defeated UC Davis 5-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Varsity Turf for the Cardinal's seventh straight win.

Stanford (7-3, 1-0 America East) came out swinging from the start against the Aggies (6-7, 0-1 America East), getting on the scoreboard eight minutes in. Zanolli powered home a shot off a penalty corner, with Fenella Scutt and Jessica Welch picking up assists. Zanolli added another goal 12 minutes later off a pass from Emma Christus.

Freshman Lily Croddick scored her first career goal later in the first half to put the Cardinal ahead 3-0 before Zanolli capped off the first half with her third goal of the afternoon off a rebound.

In the second half, Stanford kept up the offensive pressure and was rewarded just 10 minutes into the half with Scutt's first collegiate goal. Fellow freshman Isabelle Pilson picked up her third assist of the season on the freshman-to-freshman connection.

The Aggies kept up pressure on the Cardinal net throughout the afternoon, but Bing and the Cardinal defense was there to stop every opportunity. Bing had six saves on the day, and freshman Juli Porto kept the Aggies scoreless with a big-time defensive save of her own.

Sunday's win marked the 60th career victory on the Varsity Turf for head coach Tara Danielson and 130th win overall as Stanford's head coach. Since Danielson became head coach in 2010, the Cardinal is 60-13 on the Varsity Turf — a remarkable 82-percent win rate — and 130-49 overall.

After closing out the four-game homestand with Sunday's win, the Cardinal now heads back on the road for its next three contests. Stanford will take on No. 6 Michigan and No. 13 Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, next weekend before traveling to Berkeley for the first of two rivalry games against Cal on Oct. 12.
