Efficiency is Key

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Corinne Zanolli continued her recent scoring barrage, highlighting an efficient offensive team performance as No. 20 Stanford cruised past Indiana 4-1 on Friday afternoon.

One day after erupting for five goals, Zanolli tapped home two more, scoring the first and last goals of the day for the Cardinal (2-3, 0-0 America East), which won the game despite being outshot 15-10 and attempting one fewer penalty corner.

Stanford built a 3-1 halftime lead thanks to an opportunistic offense. After Zanolli opened the scoring in the 10th minute, Emma Alderton tapped home her third goal of the season at the 14:55 mark following an assist from Molly Redgrove.

Indiana (1-4, 0-0 Big Ten) got on the board in the 28th minute, but the Cardinal responded five minutes later when Isabelle Pilson produced her first collegiate goal with Zanolli assisting.

The Hoosiers created more chances and continued to pressure in the second period, outshooting the Cardinal 8-3 during that stretch.

Stanford's defense, led by Kelsey Bing's seven saves, was up to the task and held Indiana scoreless.

Zanolli's second goal of the day came at the 42:22 mark, when she tipped in a loose ball off an assist from Fenella Scutt.

Stanford, which came up empty in three straight matches against top-15 competition to open the season, has a chance to sweep its road swing through Bloomington with a victory against Central Michigan on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT.
