Cardinal Sinks Navy

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 4 Stanford completed a perfected weekend at the season-opening Princeton Invitational, recording its fourth win of the three-day tournament with a 21-4 victory over Navy Sunday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.

In similar fashion to its previous contests on the weekend, Stanford jumped out to an early lead in the first and blanked its opponent in the second quarter while putting together a scoring streak of its own to extend its advantage. On Sunday, the Cardinal led, 5-2, after the opening period, before scoring nine unanswered goals to surge ahead 14-2 late in the third quarter. The Cardinal added another score in the third and tacked on six more in the fourth for its third 20-goal performance in four games.

Senior Blake Parrish and sophomore Tyler Abramson led the way offensively, posting four goals apiece. Junior Dylan Woodhead also recorded a hat trick in the contest with three goals.

Ten different members of the Cardinal scored in the match, with freshmen AJ Rossman and Zack LaGrange registering two goals and junior Bennett Williams adding a pair of scores. Single goals from sophomore Ben Hallock and freshmen Parker Killion, Josh Orrick and Jackson Seybold rounded out the scoring.

Senior Oliver Lewis recorded 12 saves in goal for the Cardinal, playing the entire match.

Stanford returns to California, where it will face Santa Clara this coming Saturday at 9 a.m. PT at Avery Aquatic Center. The match, free to all, will be two hours before kickoff of the Stanford football game against UC Davis at Stanford Stadium.
