DAVIS, Calif. – Sophomore Timothy Sah captured the A Flight tournament title with a three-set victory Sunday to claim the crown at the Aggie Invitational at Marya Welch Tennis Center.
Sah, the sixth overall seed in the draw, defeated California's Dominic Baretto in straight sets in the morning to reach the championship match. He then outlasted Portland's Carlos Donat, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the afternoon to capture the crown
The freshman duo of Sangeet Sridhar and Tomas Kopczynski faced Barretto and Mert Zincirli of California in the doubles A Flight Final Sunday. The Cardinal came up short in the championship match, with an 8-3 setback to the Golden Bears.
Sridhar, the No. 2 overall seed in the A Flight, won his only match on Friday, but fell to Barretto in three sets on Saturday.
Both Cardinal doubles teams won their matches on Friday as Turchetta and Timothy Sah cruised past Portland's Carlos Donat and Sema Pankin (8-3). Sridhar and Tomas Kopczynski made their collegiate debut in doubles with an 8-5 win over Pacific's John Horoz Garner and Jonathan Lieu.
The Aggie Invitational was the first of six tournaments members of the Cardinal will play in this fall.
