Player of the Week Again

STANFORD, Calif. – Amir Bashti has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week for games from Sept. 24 – Sept. 30.

The honor is the second of Bashti's career, his second in the past three weeks and Stanford's 32nd all-time player of the week selection.

Bashti had a goal and an assist in each game of the Cardinal's weekend sweep of San Diego State (3-0) and UCLA (3-0) to begin Pac-12 play. He put in a pinpoint cross to set up Logan Panchot's 55th-minute header on Thursday evening against the Aztecs and scored Stanford's third in emphatic fashion later on with an upper-90 crack from 20 yards.

The senior again set up the Cardinal's first tally on Sunday against UCLA, dribbling his way out of a crowd of four Bruin defenders in the 52nd minute and passing out wide to Tanner Beason, whose first-time cross to the far post was put home by Charlie Wehan.

Bashti himself gave Stanford some breathing room 15 minutes later on a on a play that began with a long throw in to the center of the pitch from Collin Liberty. Derek Waldeck took it and moved up field with a few touches before getting it to Wehan on his right. Wehan poked it forward with his right foot to Zach Ryan at the top of the 18 and the redshirt freshman stopped, turned and fed Bashti just as the senior was making his run through UCLA's back line. Bashti took one touch and without even looking on frame launched his shot at the near post. The ball hit iron and skipped in for his fifth of the year.

Stanford's striker has four goals in the past four matches and is second in the conference with five overall this season. The Cardinal, which has won eight consecutive Pac-12 matches and is unbeaten in its last 13 league contests, plays at Cal on Sunday at 3 p.m.
