STOCKTON, Calif. – No. 5 Stanford continued its start to the 2018-19 season by swimming in the Pacific Invitational at the University of Pacific on Saturday.

"Today was a great opportunity for us to get a team travel meet in the books and also a chance to improve on some things from the Utah meet earlier in the week," said the Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming Ted Knapp. "We can now start applying additional components to our training based on these recent results – we're very excited to start our next training cycle knowing we've already put in a lot of hard work."

Stanford started the meet by winning the 400-yard medley relay. Ryan Dudzinski, Matt Anderson, Brad Zdroik and Will Macmillan (3:21.20) took the top spot with Alex Boratto, Daniel Roy, Alex Liang and Glen Cowand (3:24.10) placing third.

The Cardinal claimed the top four spots in the 500-yard freestyle, led by Jack Levant (4:22.96) in first place. True Sweetser (4:28.40), James Murphy (4:34.16) and Matthew Hirschberger (4:35.48) completed the top four.

Stanford swept the 200-yard backstroke podium with Benjamin Ho (1:47.75) earning the win. Patrick Conaton (1:48.66) was second and Jack Walsh (1:49.94) placed third.

Cole Cogswell (45.52) paced the Cardinal with second place in the 100-yard freestyle, followed by Mason Gonzalez in third place and David Madej (46.20) in fifth.

Roy (2:00.15) edged out teammate Hank Poppe (2:00.27) to win the 200-yard breaststroke with Anderson (2:04.09), Brennan Pastorek (2:06.58) and Patrick Conaton (2:09.72) completing a top-five sweep for the Cardinal.

Ho (50.07) led the way in the 100-yard butterfly with second place, followed by Levant (50.82) in third, Madej (50.98) in fourth and Gonzalez (51.23) in fifth.

Stanford dominated the 200-yard individual medley, claiming the top eight spots, led by Jack Walsh (1:53.33) with the top spot. Roy (1:53.93), Zdroik (1:54.56) and Macmillan (1:54.76) followed him, with True Sweetser (1:55.43), Pastorek (1:55.58), Liang (1:56.57) and Will Roberts (1:57.69) completing the sweep.

The quartet of Cogswell, Conaton, Gonzalez and Jordan Greenberg (1:22.78) finished the day with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay – Levant, Ho, Poppe and Pastorek (1:23.57) followed them in third place.

The Cardinal returns to Avery Aquatic Center when it hosts Cal in its annual triple-distance meet on Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. Live streaming and results will be available at GoStanford.com.
