HANOVER, N.H./PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Behind several strong performances, Stanford sailing captured the Captain Hurst Bowl over the weekend. The Cardinal also competed at the Women's Showcase Finals on the East Coast and finished 18th.

Stanford, which won the Danamrk Trophy at the end of September, won the Captain Hurst Bowl with 188 points in Hanover, New Hampshire. The Cardinal edged out Harvard, which finished second with 196 points.

Stanford won both the A and B divisions. Returning All-American Romain Screve made his season debut as skipper with crew Sammy Pickell in the A division. Screve and Pickell won every race on Sunday except for the last, where they were covering Harvard to secure the team win. Their strong second day helped edge Yale for first place in the division. Screve and Pickell finished with 57 points, while the Bulldogs managed 59 points.

Freshman skipper Wiley Rogers and sophomore crew Victoria Thompson remained undefeated this year with just 31 points in the B division -- 20 points clear of second-place Hobart and William Smith. The duo also finished first in their other two competitions this year at the Danmark Trophy (A division) and Sugar Bowl regatta (B division).

In the C division, the freshmen pairing of skipper John Kirkpatrick and crew Laurel Foster finished 10th with 100 points. Freshman Ashton Borcherding was an alternate for the Cardinal.

At the Women's Showcase Final, hosted by Brown University, the Cardinal finished 18th with 347 points. Skipper Christina Sakellaris and crew Cassie Obel were 18th with 189 points in the A division, while skipper Stephanie Houck and crew Camille White were 12th with 158 points in the B division. Sophia Sole was the alternate for the regatta, which the Cardinal qualified for with an eighth-place finish at the semifinals in St. Mary's City, Maryland, two weeks ago.
