SEATTLE – Junior William Genesen fell just short in his bid for a second consecutive tournament title this fall.
The Cardinal, who captured the UCSB Classic tournament title last weekend, dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Oregon's Emmanuel Coste in Monday's ITA Northwest Regionals championship match at Washington's Nordstrom Tennis Center.
Genesen advanced to Monday's final with two wins on Sunday, defeating Santa Clara's Andrew Gu in the quarterfinals and his teammate, Sameer Kumar in the semifinals.
Timothy Sah had reached the quarterfinals in the tournament as well. He fell to California's Yuta Kikuchi in a wild 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) match.
Stanford also fielded four doubles teams in the tournament, with Genesen and Kumar reaching the quarterfinals.

There was a total of 121 singles players and 58 doubles teams in the ITA Northwest Regionals, including players from California, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pepperdine, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Seattle U, St. Mary's, Stanford, UC Davis and Washington.
