STANFORD, Calif. – Eleven different members of the Cardinal scored as No. 2 Stanford improved to 14-1 on the year with a 19-4 victory over No. 20 Wagner Friday night at Avery Aquatic Center.
Senior Marco Stanchi and freshman Jackson Seybold led the offensive attack with three goals apiece, while Ben Hallock, Bennett Williams, AJ Rossman and Josh Orrick recorded a pair of scores each.
Stanford jumped out to the early lead on a Hallock score 1:15 into the contest and raced out to an 8-0 advantage after one quarter. Seybold highlighted the offensive explosion in the first with a steal and breakaway goal on the other end as he lobbed it over keeper for the score.
The Cardinal scored the first nine goals in the match altogether, before Wagner's Matthew Miller put the Seahawks on the board with 5:57 left in the first half. Stanchi, who converted a penalty shot earlier in the quarter, netted a first-half hat trick. He tallied his third goal of the match with 57 seconds remaining. Seybold then rattled the cage again with nine seconds left in the half to give Stanford a 14-3 lead at the break.
Three more scores in the third, and two in the fourth led to the 19-4 victory for Stanford.
Senior goalie Oliver Lewis finished with 10 saves in three quarters of action, before handing goalie duties over to freshman George Hagestad in the fourth. Hagestad posted four saves without allowing a score in the final period.
Stanford continues its 11-match homestand on Sunday, as the Cardinal welcomes No. 7 Pacific to Avery Aquatic Center for a 1 p.m. match.
