Tigers Tamed

STOCKTON, Calif. - No. 20 Stanford topped Pacific 4-2 Friday afternoon in Stockton, Calif., to improve to 3-0 in America East play behind eight saves from junior goalkeeper Kelsey Bing.

In the second battle of the season between the two squads, Stanford (11-4, 3-0 America East) took a 1-0 lead on a penalty corner on the last play of the first half and never ceded the lead the rest of the way to the victory over the Tigers (8-7, 2-1 America East). Sophomore Corinne Zanolli slotted home a goal in the top-left corner of the net off assists from Fenella Scutt and Jessica Welch. Welch now leads the Cardinal with eight assists on the season.

In the second half, Zanolli wasted no time doubling the Cardinal's lead to 2-0 just over a minute into the half. Junior Phoebe Crosthwaite found Zanolli for her sixth assist and Zanolli's 21st goal of the season.

After a 47th minute goal by Pacific's Rylee Comeau cut the lead in half, freshman Molly Redgrove found the back of the net off a Cardinal penalty corner to put the game firmly out of reach. Redgrove now has five goals and five assists in her standout freshman campaign. Kennedy Schumacher and Scutt picked up assists on the Redgrove finish.

Four minutes later, Redgrove found her teammate Crosthwaite for Stanford's fourth and final goal of the afternoon. Crosthwaite also has five goals this season, helping keep the Cardinal balanced on offense.

Stanford returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 21, hosting Cal for a 1 p.m. contest. The matchup with the Golden Bears will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Network with Troy Clardy '97 on the call.
