Huskies Halted

SEATTLE – Catarina Macario scored both of No. 1 Stanford's goals in a 2-0 win at Washington on Thursday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.

The Cardinal (15-0-1, 8-0-0) remained perfect in Pac-12 play with Macario scoring on either side of halftime and Alison Jahansouz earning her seventh shutout of the season with four saves in net. Stanford's program-record unbeaten streak stands at 38 games while its Pac-12 win streak reaches 26 games – the Cardinal has gone 551:52 minutes without allowing a goal.

The contest started slowly with the Huskies (7-9-1, 2-7-0) holding Stanford without a shot for the opening 10 minutes. Stanford got the breakthrough in the 26th minute after a Washington handball in the box. Abby Greubel whipped a dangerous cross into the box in the direction of Macario, and the Husky defender was ruled to handle the ball off of a dangerous bounce. Macario stepped up to the spot and calmly buried the penalty kick, her team-leading 10th strike of the season.

Alison Jahansouz preserved Stanford's 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. The Huskies won a free kick from 30 yards, and Ameera Hussen's shot skipped on the turf in front of Jahansouz, who safely handled it without surrendering a rebound. Eight minutes later, Jahansouz punched away another dangerous free kick to keep Stanford in the lead heading into halftime.

Following halftime, Macario doubled the lead in the 51st minute with a magnificent strike from just inside the 18-yard line. Jordan DiBiasi picked her out with a long pass from midfield, and Macario squared up to goal from the left side the box before unleashing a powerful curled shot past Siena Ruelas inside the far post with her right foot.

Washington had several chances to cut into the lead, but Jahansouz and the Cardinal back line held firm in the final third of the match. Beattie Goad and Carly Malatskey each had scoring chances in the closing stages, only to be denied by Ruelas at point-blank range.

Stanford and Washington tied in shots with eight apiece with Stanford holding a 5-4 edge in shots on goal and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Macario had a team-high three shots and five others finished with one apiece.

No. 1 Stanford continues conference play when it visits Washington State on Sunday in Pullman, Washington. The game will kick off at 2 p.m. and air on Pac-12 Networks.
