STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford will open the 2018-19 season ranked seventh in the Associated Press women's basketball poll, the organization announced Wednesday. It's the 19th consecutive season the Cardinal has appeared in the preseason AP rankings.
 
Stanford, which closed out 2017-18 ranked 15th in the same poll, made its 11th consecutive trip to the Sweet 16 last season, posting a 24-11 overall record and a 14-3 mark in Pac-12 play.
 
The Cardinal has now appeared in the AP rankings 530 times out of 750 total polls since 1977 (70.6 percent), with an average positioning of 7.4. Stanford AP poll appearances are fourth all-time behind Tennessee (717), Texas (540) and Georgia (531) and its 392 appearances in the top 10 are third behind Tennessee (612) and Connecticut (455).
 
Stanford begins its 2018-19 season when it hosts Vanguard in an exhibition on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Fans can receive up to four free youth tickets (8th grade and under) with the purchase of a paid adult ticket by visiting this link.
