STANFORD, Calif. – For the 25th consecutive year, both the Stanford men's and women's teams advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
The Stanford teams were at-large selections into 31-team fields, as revealed by the NCAA on Saturday. The NCAA meet is Saturday, Nov. 17, on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin. The women's race will be at 8:45 a.m. PT and the men's at 9:45 a.m. Flotrack will stream the meet as part of its subscription package.
Stanford placed outside of the two automatic qualifying spots at the NCAA West Regionals on Friday in Sacramento – the women were third and the men fourth. However, each was among 13 at-large teams selected for each race.
The Stanford women have qualified for an ongoing record 26th consecutive year and 31 times overall. The Card men have advanced for the 25th consecutive year and 27 times overall. They have combined to win nine NCAA championships and earn 32 top-four team finishes.
Last year, each team placed fourth at nationals and Stanford was the only program to have two teams among the top seven.
Stanford returns men's cross country All-Americans -- two-time Pac-12 champ Grant Fisher, Alex Ostberg and Steven Fahy – and women's All-Americans Elise Cranny and Fiona O'Keeffe.
