Card Hosts Bay Area All-Stars

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford men's volleyball team will host an exhibition match against Bay Area All-Stars on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion. Admission is free.

The Bay Area All-Star team is comprised of five former Cardinal players and 10 out of 11 previously competed in the MPSF. James Shaw and Conrad Kaminski, both part of the class of 2016, are joined by fellow first team All-American Evan Enriques. Shaw was the 2016 MPSF Player of the Year and has played for the U.S. National Team. 2010 national champion Spencer McLachlin, who is now an assistant coach for the Cal women's volleyball team, is also on the roster as well as former starter and 2014 graduate Denny Falls.

Two-time national champion at Ohio State Peter Edwards, who began his career at Pacific, is listed as an outside hitter for the all-star team, while setter Josh Stewart and All-MPSF libero Javier Caceres also have ties to Pacific. 2013 national champion with UC Irvine Jason Agopian and UC San Diego's Fred Stahl are both middle blockers. Additionally, the Big Ten Collegiate Club Player of the Year for Purdue, Kyle Schwede will play at opposite.

Stanford returns 15 players from the 2018 roster, including AVCA All-America honorable mention selection and All-MPSF first-team performer Jaylen Jasper and All-MPSF honorable mention pick Kyler Presho. Fifth-year senior libero Kyle Dagostino also returns after redshirting last season.

Dagostino represented the U.S. in its seventh-place finish at the Pan American Cup in Mexico over the summer. Jasper and Presho were joined by sophomore JP Reilly on the U.S. Junior National Team, which took fourth at the NORCECA U21 Continental Championship in Cuba. Libero Justin Lui, Stanford's lone incoming freshman from Pickering, Ontario, played for Canada at the U21 Continental Championship.

This November, the Stanford men's volleyball team has been focusing its efforts to raise money and awareness for mental health. Along with raising money, the team has been engaging in conversations that will hopefully lessen the stigma of mental health.

The Cardinal opens the 2019 season on Friday, Jan. 4 against Menlo College in Burnham Pavilion. Stanford will also host UC Santa Cruz during the opening weekend.
