Solid in Hawaii

KAILUA, Hawaii – Second-ranked Stanford posted a 1-under-par score of 291 on Monday and sits fifth after the first round of the Nanea Pac-12 Preview at scenic and challenging Nanea Golf Club.

Junior Albane Valenzuela carded a 2-under 71, while freshman Aline Krauter added a 72 and junior Andrea Lee a 73 to pace the Cardinal. Junior Ziyi Wang contributed a 75 and sophomore Kelsey Zeng shot 77.

Cal, Oregon and USC share the lead at 3-under 289 in the 54-hole event.

Eleven Pac-12 schools and the University of Hawaii are competing.

Six conference teams are represented in the top-20 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings. USC is No. 1, followed by Stanford, UCLA (3), Arizona State (9), Washington (11) and Arizona (12).

Valenzuela, coming off a stroke play victory at the East Lake Cup last week in Atlanta, made four birdies and two bogeys. Krauter also registered four birdies, while Lee, the defending champion, had three.

Valenzuela is tied for ninth, four shots behind Cindy Oh of Cal. Krauter is tied for 12th, Lee is tied for 16th, Wang is tied for 28th and Zeng is tied for 43rd.

Last year's tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to heavy, final-round rain. As a result, two-day totals stood up, with UCLA claiming the team crown with a score of 20-under 564. Stanford took second at 9-under 575.

Lee captured the individual title with rounds of 69-68 to conclude at 9-under 137. It marked her third victory in four fall starts.

On Tuesday, Stanford begins second round play at 9:30 PT a.m. in a shotgun start. The final round will be held on Wednesday.
