SURPRISE, Ariz. – Senior Sameer Kumar has advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation draw Friday in the ITA National Fall Championships at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.
Kumar bounced back from a three-set defeat in the main draw on Wednesday with a three-set win on Thursday over Dartmouth's Charlie Broom (5-7 6-2 6-2) in the consolation draw.
The Cardinal senior moved on to the consolation quarterfinals as his opponent, Wake Forest's Bar Botzer, was unable to play Friday morning.
He will face either Florida's Johannes Ingildsen or USC's Tanner Smith in the consolation quarterfinals Friday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Kumar faced Virginia's Ryan Goetz in the main draw, dropping a three-set decision, 6-4 ,1-6, 7-5.
Junior William Genesen dropped his opening round match in the main draw on Wednesday to Tulane's Ewan Moore and fell in the consolation draw Thursday to Illinois' Alex Brown.
The ITA National Fall Championships features 64 of the nation's top collegiate men's singles players and 32 men's teams. It is the final event of the fall schedule for the Cardinal.
