RENO, Nev. - Stanford's Paul Fox won the 157 pound title at the Reno Tournament of Champions, Thursday, leading four Cardinal placers.
Joining Fox in the top 6 were redshirt junior Trevor Rasmussen (4th - 285 pounds), freshman Shane Griffith (5th - 165 pounds) and redshirt junior David Showunmi (6th - 285 pounds).
Fox, a fifth-year senior, went 5-0 in the tournament and defeated Oklahoma State's Jonce Blaylock, 5-3, in the finals.
Rasmussen defeated Michigan State's Christian Rebottaro to advance to the semifinals at heavyweight, where he fell to third-ranked Derek White of Oklahoma State. Showunmi battled back in the consolation bracket at 285 pounds, edging Michigan State's Chase Beard, 4-3, to reach the fifth-place bout. However, the match versus Beard was his sixth of the day so due to NCAA rules, his tournament ended there.
Wrestling unattached, Griffith placed for the third time this season. The rookie posted three major decisions and a fall in the tournament.
