Back on Track

PROVO, Utah – Juniors Audriana Fitzmorris and Kathryn Plummer combined for 25 kills as No. 1 Stanford swept Wichita State, Saturday, in the BYU Nike Invitational at Smith Fieldhouse.
 
Fitzmorris led all players with 13 kills on 24 swings and just two errors to hit .458. Plummer totaled 12 kills, including seven in the first set, and served two aces.
 
Stanford (3-1) hit a season-best .364 and had eight blocks as it handed the Shockers (4-1) their first loss of the season.
 
Junior libero Morgan Hentz racked up a season-high 19 digs while anchoring the defense. Sophomore outside hitter Meghan McClure continued to prove steady for the Cardinal, totaling nine kills on .368 hitting and eight digs.
 


Setter Jenna Gray finished with 47 assists as the Cardinal recorded 25 kills in the third set. The junior also had five digs, four blocks, two kills and an ace.
 
In total, 12 Cardinal played in the match. Senior middle blocker Courtney Bowen hit .571 (4-0-7) and registered three blocks in two sets played. Redshirt sophomore Michaela Keefe subbed in for McClure in the second and notched a kill and a dig. Junior defensive specialist Caitlin Keefe replaced Plummer in the back row in the third set.
 
The Shockers were led by senior Tabitha Brown's 11 kills and eight digs. No other Wichita State player had more than six kills. Libero Giorgia Civita finished with 11 digs and four assists.
 
Stanford will take the court again on Saturday at 4 p.m. PT against West Virginia to wrap up the BYU Nike Invitational.
