Strong Finish

PROVO, Utah – Playing in its third match within 24 hours, No. 1 Stanford closed out the BYU Nike Invitational with a sweep over West Virginia, Saturday, at Smith Fieldhouse.
 
The Cardinal (4-1) hit a season-best .432, while holding West Virginia (2-4) to a -.070 clip. It was a complete team effort as 13 Stanford players appeared in the match.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Meghan McClure led all players with 12 kills on .524 hitting and seven digs. Senior Courtney Bowen started the match at middle blocker and finished with career-highs in kills (6) and blocks (6) while hitting .545.
 
Stanford hit over .400 in each set, and registered a 100 percent sideout rate in the second. The Cardinal finished with 10.5 team blocks and four aces.
 
Setter Jenna Gray recorded 33 assists and had a season-high eight digs. The junior also tallied four blocks for the third consecutive match. Junior Morgan Hentz finished one assist shy of a double-double. The libero has tallied double-digit digs in all five matches this season.
 
Junior Kathryn Plummer hit .556 with six kills and two blocks in one and a half sets played. Junior opposite Audriana Fitzmorris also had six kills and four blocks. Redshirt sophomore Michaela Keefe added five kills on 11 errorless swings to hit .455 in two sets.
 
Junior defensive specialist Caitlin Keefe collected a career-best five digs. Freshman opposite Mackenzie Fidelak made her collegiate debut, finishing with three kills.

Fitzmorris and Gray were both named to all-tournament team.
 
Stanford returns to The Farm for the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge, Sept. 7-9. The Cardinal will face No. 6 Penn State and No. 3 Minnesota on Pac-12 Network.
