Successful Home Debut

STANFORD, Calif. – Led by five goals from junior Bennett Williams and four from sophomore Tyler Abramson, No. 4 Stanford cruised past No. 20 Santa Clara, 19-6, Saturday morning in its home opener at Avery Aquatic Center.
 
Williams and Abramson each matched their career-high goal totals in a match to guide the Cardinal (5-0) to its fifth double-digit victory of the season.
 
The Cardinal got on the board early with the first three goals of the contest. Abramson got it started as the sophomore punched in his first goal of the match a little more than two minutes in. Stanford scored 16 of the first 17 goals overall.
 
Stanford led Santa Clara (3-2), 7-1, after one quarter, before netting all five second-quarter scores to push its advantage to 12-1 at the half. Abramson and freshman Parker Killion each scored a pair of goals and Williams rounded out the goal production from the Cardinal in the period. Abramson recorded a hat trick in the first half.
 
Williams posted a hat trick in the third quarter alone, and freshman Jackson Seybold added a score to give Stanford a 16-1 advantage. Santa Clara's Judge Washer snapped the Cardinal scoring run with a goal in the final two minutes of the quarter.
 
Abramson netted his fourth score, Seybold recorded his second hat trick of the season and LaGrange got on the board off a nice touch pass from Williams, as the Cardinal got three goals in the final period. Arvin Bahia and Ryan Werner scored a pair of goals each for the Broncos in the final period to make it 19-6.
 
Senior Oliver Lewis posted seven saves in three quarters of action for the Cardinal, before handing the keeper duties over to freshman George Hagestad. Playing in his second career match, Hagestad recorded one save in his one quarter in the cage. Santa Clara's Keaton Fox finished with seven saves for the Broncos.
 
Stanford heads south for a pair of matches next weekend. The Cardinal will face No. 7 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday (Sept. 22) in Santa Barbara and No. 10 Pepperdine on Sunday (Sept. 23) in Malibu. Both matches are at noon.
