No. 1 Hosts Stanford Open

STANFORD, Calif. - On the heels of posting the best team score in the NCAA at the Cal Benefit Cup, No. 1 Stanford returns home to host the Stanford Open on Saturday at 7 p.m. from Burnham Pavilion.

The Cardinal will welcome No. 9 California for the second pairing in as many weeks, while also entertaining No. 19 NorCal United as part of the Open. For full information on the Stanford Open, including to purchase tickets, please visit stanfordopen.com.

Last week, Stanford turned in a team score of 411.250, led by MSPF Gymnast of the Week Grant Breckenridge. The native of Libertyville, Ill. posted an 80.750 in the all-around to capture the event title and place second nationally. In winning the all-around, Breckenridge also took first on the parallel bars with a score of 14.650.
 

Including the pair from Breckenridge, Stanford captured seven event titles in the opener to 2019. Junior Connor Lewis took top honors on floor with a career and NCAA-best 14.700, while junior Joey Ringer captured the title on pommel horse (13.650). David Jessen rounded out the first-place finishes from the junior class, netting the high bar with a mark of 13.500. Sophomore Bryan Perla topped all comers on the vault (career-best 14.500), while freshman Ian Gunther took home the rings title (14.050) in his first collegiate competition.

Following the Stanford Open, the Cardinal will once again meet Cal, traveling to Haas Pavilion on Sunday, January 27, at 6 p.m. for a televised meet on the Pac-12 Networks.
