Two More Wins at Cal Cup

BERKELEY, Calif. – Makenzie Fischer and Madison Stamen scored eight goals each and No. 2 Stanford rolled to a pair of wins over No. 17 Fresno State and No. 14 San Jose State at the Cal Cup in Berkeley on Sunday.
 
The Cardinal routed the Bulldogs in the second meeting between the two programs, 23-7, and soundly beat the Spartans later in the day, 19-4, to move to 49-0 all-time against SJSU.
 
The Cardinal (3-0) is at home next weekend when it hosts the Stanford Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. All-session tickets are priced at $25 for adults and $15 for seniors and youth, while single-day tickets cost $15 for adults and $8 for seniors and youth. The Cardinal scored eight times in the first quarter and never looked back. Makenzie Fischer, Aria Fischer and Sarah Klass rattled the cage in the first two minutes and Makenzie Fischer scored against at 4:17 to put Stanford up 4-0.
 
Fresno State got on the board on its possession following Fischer's second goal and cut the Cardinal lead in half with another tally at 2:38 before Stanford closed the period on a 4-0 run.
 
Ryann Neushul had back-to-back strikes at 2:35 and 2:03, Hannah Shabb scored at 1:23 and Chloe Harbilas notched one of her two goals at the first-quarter horn.
 
Stanford scored three more times to start the second and up its run to 7-0 on goals from Aria Fischer, Kat Klass and Lauren Indart. Up 11-2, early in the quarter, Fresno State closed the half with a 3-2 edge over the final 6:06 and the Cardinal led 13-5 at the half.
 
Stanford scored four more times in the third without allowing a goal to put the game out of reach, with the offense coming from Hannah Shabb (2), Aria Ficher and Chloe Harbilas.
 
Six more goals in the final frame pushed the Cardinal over 20 for the second game in a row to start the season.
 
Thea Walsh played the first three quarters in the cage and made eight saves. Katrina Sturm came on in the fourth and made three stops.

Stanford kept its perfect weekend intact with a 19-4 win over San Jose State behind 11 combined goals from Makenzie Fischer (6) and Madison Stamen (5).
 
Fischer spread her work throughout the game evenly, scoring twice in the first and second quarters and once each in the third and fourth. Stamen was held without a goal to start, but had two in the second period, one in the third and two in the fourth. Stamen, a freshman, had 12 goals in three games at the Cal Cup for the Cardinal.
 
Stanford raced out to another 4-0 lead behind strikes from Chloe Harbilas, Kat Klass and Makenzie Fischer (2) before the Spartans finally broke through with 1:49 on the clock to make it 4-1 after one.
 
The Cardinal poured in five more in the second, two each from Fischer and Stamen and another from Ryann Neushul and had an even better second half than its nine-goal first, scoring 10 across the third and fourth quarters.
 
Emalia Eichelberger played the first three quarters in the cage and made eight saves. Katrina Sturm came on in the fourth and made three stops.
