Stanford Falls at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - No. 9 Nathan Traxler and No. 15 Requir van der Merwe notched wins, but No. 25 Stanford fell 30-7 at Indiana, Saturday, in Wilkinson Hall.

Stanford lost eight of the 10 bouts to drop to 7-3 overall, while Indiana moved to 5-10.

Stanford gave up six to start the dual as it forfeited at 133 pounds. The Cardinal found itself down 9-0 after Brandon Kier dropped a 7-2 decision to Kyle Luigs at 141 pounds.

van der Merwe put three on the board for the Cardinal with a 3-1 decision over Fernie Silva at 149 pounds. Ranked No. 15, van der Merwe led 3-0 after two periods. Silva scored an escape in the third and was in on a shot late, but van der Merwe held him off as time ran out. van der Merwe is now 20-6 overall and 9-1 in duals this season.

The Hoosiers won the next four bouts to push their lead to 22-3 before the Cardinal would score again.

Traxler got back in the win column with a dominating 11-3 major decision over Jake Kleimola at 197 pounds. Traxler scored a quick takedown in the first and racked up 2:38 seconds of riding time. Up 5-1 after two, Traxler scored an escape and two more takedowns in the third. He finished with 4:20 of riding time to improve to 23-5 overall and 9-1 in duals this season.

Elijah Oliver closed out the dual for the Hoosiers at 125 pounds with a fall over No. 20 Gabriel Townsell in 4:40. Oliver was called for unsportsmanlike conduct as he ripped off his head gear following the pin and Indiana was docked one team point.

Up next, Stanford resumes Pac-12 action at Oregon State on Friday, Feb. 15. The dual will be televised on Pac-12 Networks at 6 p.m.
