EUGENE, Ore. – Stanford could not overcome its second-worst first-half shooting performance of the season, falling to Oregon 69-46 Sunday night at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Cardinal (12-11, 5-6 Pac-12) leaves the Beaver State with a split of the Oregon schools, after defeating Oregon State by 23 on Thursday in Corvallis.
Stanford missed its first 13 shots and opened the game 1-for-21 from the field to fall behind 16-2 midway through the first half. The Cardinal rebounded late in the half, knocking down six of its final nine shots of the opening 20 minutes to cut it to 30-20 at the break.
Despite finding its touch from the field over the final four minutes of the opening half, the Cardinal shot 22.6 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Stanford finished the game 27.3 percent from the field, its second-worst shooting performance of the season (27.1 percent against Wisconsin). The Cardinal was 2-of-8 on three-point field goal attempts in the contest.
Freshman Bryce Wills scored 11 of his team-high 13 points in the second half, including six in the first three minutes of the final period, as the Cardinal tried to make a run to get back into it.
Stanford cut it to seven (38-31) with 15:23 to play on a KZ Okpala three from the top of the key.
Oregon (15-9, 6-5) responded, however, scoring the next eight points to build its lead back to double digits. Stanford could not get any closer the rest of the way, as the Ducks ballooned their lead over the final four minutes.
Oregon, which shot 44 percent for the game, was led by Payton Pritchard's 20 points in the contest. Louis King added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Ducks.
Okpala finished with 10 points on the night for his 18th double-digit scoring performance of the season.
Stanford returns home to face USC on Wednesday (Feb. 13) at 8 p.m. at Maples Pavilion.
