Happy Homecoming

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – Southern California native Andrea Lee fired a 1-under-par 70 on Sunday at rainy Palos Verdes Golf Club to help No. 5 Stanford place second after the opening round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.

Sixteen teams are competing in the 54-hole tournament, the first of the spring season for the Cardinal.

Stanford combined for an 11-over 295 in soggy conditions, four strokes behind pacesetter UCLA. USC, Ohio State and Texas share third at 15-over.

Lee, a two-time WGCA first team All-America, made three birdies and two bogeys in her homecoming appearance. Her birdies came at the par-4 14th, par-5 16th and par-4 first, the latter Lee's last hole of the day. The junior ranks third individually, one shot behind Agathe Laisne of Texas and Letizia Bagnoli of Wake Forest.

Cardinal junior Albane Valenzuela, also a two-time All-America, rebounded from a double bogey on her first hole with consecutive birdies, then closed with 13 straight pars to shoot 73 and is tied for 11th. Sophomore Mika Liu (t-17) added a 75, junior Ziyi Wang (t-40) 77 and sophomore Kelsey Zeng (t-75) 81.

The second round will be played Monday, followed by the final round on Tuesday. Live scoring is available at GoStanford.com.
