STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford's track and field teams received Top 20 rankings as the USTFCCCA released the results of its preseason outdoor computer rankings Monday.
The Stanford women are No. 11 and the men are No. 16. Last year, the Cardinal women finished third at the NCAA Championships, only two points behind the winner, and the men were eighth.
Stanford returns 11 men's All-Americans and eight women's. Four returning Stanford women – Christina Aragon (1,500 meters), Jenna Gray (javelin), Mackenzie Little (javelin), and Fiona O'Keeffe (5,000) – have earned first-team outdoor All-America honors in individual events. For the men, Steven Fahy (steeplechase), Grant Fisher (5,000), and Harrison Williams (decathlon) have done so.
Stanford's women have finished in the NCAA top 20 the past eight years and the men are coming off their best NCAA outdoor finish since 2011.
At the NCAA Indoor Championships a little over a week ago, the Cardinal men were fourth and the women 12th.
Through the cross country and indoor seasons, the Stanford men lead the USTFCCCA John McDonnell Men's Program of the Year rankings and the women are fourth in the Terry Crawford Women's Program of the Year rankings.
Stanford opened its outdoor season last weekend at the Hornet Invitational in Sacramento, and should have close to its full squad in action for the first time, at the Stanford Invitational on March 29-30.
