Season Ends in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH - Mason Pengilly and Nathan Traxler both fell in the Round of 12, Friday, at the NCAA Championships in PPG Paints Arena.

Pengilly was defeated by sixth-seeded Ethan Lizak of Minnesota, 14-2. There was no score in the opening period and Lizak chose top to start the second. He racked up three sets of four near fall points in the second period to essentially put the match out of reach for Pengilly. There was no quit in the Cardinal fifth-year senior, who scored a takedown as time expired in the third period.

Pengilly finishes the season at 15-7 and as a two-time NCAA qualifier. The Porterville, California, native ends his Stanford career at 37-31 overall.

Traxler ends his redshirt sophomore season at 30-7. He is the first Cardinal to reach the 30-win plateau since 2016-17. He is now 49-19 in his career.

In the Round of 12, Traxler was in deep on a shot on sixth-seeded William Miklus (Iowa State). Miklus countered and put Traxler on his back, recording the fall in just 28 seconds to become a four-time All-American.
