STANFORD, Calif. –Led by seven first-team selections, nine Stanford wrestlers were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Earning first team honors were redshirt seniors Paul Fox and Mason Pengilly, redshirt junior Austin Flores, juniors Brandon Kier and Gabriel Townsell, redshirt sophomore Nathan Traxler and sophomore Dominick Mandarino.
Additionally, two Cardinal landed on the second team - redshirt sophomores and Jared Hill and Requir van der Merwe.
Flores (computer science), Fox (science, technology and society), Kier (science, technology and society) and Traxler (computer science) are all repeat first-team selections, while Hill (management science and engineering) earned a spot on the second team for the second straight season.
Pengilly (political science) and Townsell (political science) both earned second team accolades as sophomores, Mandarino and van der Merwe (management science and engineering) are being recognized for the first time.
Stanford's nine total selections were the most by any team in the conference. Arizona State and CSU Bakersfield were second with three honorees apiece, while Oregon State had two.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in 50 percent of the team's scheduled competition. True freshmen are not eligible.
