Early Hole Sinks Card

STANFORD, Calif. – Oregon (13-17, 1-7 Pac-12) connected for a pair of first-inning home runs on Saturday afternoon, including a grand slam from Shaye Bowden, en route to cruising to a 7-2 victory over No. 24 Stanford (24-5, 3-1 Pac-12) from Smith Family Stadium.

The loss was the first in Pac-12 play for the Cardinal, and evened the three-game series with the Ducks.

Oregon's Haley Cruse batted 4-for-5 with two runs scored while hitting out of the leadoff spot in the order – guiding the Ducks to 14 total hits in the game. After Bowden connected for the grand slam – the second in the series for the Ducks – Rachel Cid launched a solo homer over the wall in centerfield to cap the five-run first.

Sophomore Maddy Dwyer took the loss after allowing seven runs on the 14 hits while tossing a complete game. The right-hander dropped to 8-3 on the season.

Lefty Maddie MacGrandle was efficient in the circle for Oregon, logging 5.2 innings and allowing just two runs on five hits while throwing only 73 pitches. MacGrandle improved to 3-6 with the victory.

Offensively, Stanford received a 3-for-4 day from Teaghan Cowles. The leadoff hitter in the order accounted for half of the Cardinal hits, including an RBI-double in the fifth inning that cut the deficit to 6-2.

Stanford's only other run in the game came in the second as freshman Emily Schultz laced a run-scoring triple off the wall in centerfield to chase home Emily Young. The triple was the first of Schultz' career.

Stanford and Oregon will play the deciding game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
