Malone Sweeps Again

STANFORD, Calif. – For the second time this year, freshman Brody Malone captured a clean sweep of the available men's gymnastics weekly honors, taking home MPSF Gymnast of the Week, College Gymnastics Association Gymnast of the Week, and College Gymnastics Association Rookie of the Week. No previous Stanford gymnast had ever swept the three weekly awards.

The native of Summerville, Ga. had previously accomplished the feat on February 5. In total, this is the third time that Malone has been lauded by the MSPF (January 29, February 5). He has now claimed National Gymnast of the Year twice (February 5), and National Rookie of the Week four times (January 29, February 5, February 26).

Malone became just the second gymnast this year to record an all-around score of 85.000 or better, finishing with a mark of 85.250 to guide a 417.400-396.150 victory over No. 11 California on Saturday. Malone won the vault (14.650) and parallel bars (14.550) with career-bests, took first in high bar (14.050), and shared the floor title (14.300). He also managed a third-place finish in the pommel horse (career-best 13.900), and was fourth in still rings (13.800).

With the five event titles, including his fourth all-around crown, Malone has now captured 13 event titles in his inaugural collegiate season.

Stanford is currently preparing for the MPSF Championships on Saturday, April 6 in Norman, Okla. The NCAA Championships are then scheduled for April 19-20 in Champaign, Ill.
