STANFORD, Calif. – Five Cardinal won gold with the United States at the FINA Women's Intercontinental Tournament in Perth, Australia. Alumnae Jamie Neushul, Kiley Neushul, Jordan Raney, Maggie Steffens and Gabby Stone led the U.S. to its fourth title at the event and second consecutive with a 14-12 shootout victory over Australia on Sunday.
Team USA cruised through its first five matches with relative ease, beating China (11-5), Japan (18-7), New Zealand (20-3), South Africa (22-4) and Canada (14-7) before it ran into its longtime rival in the championship. Kiley Neushul, Jamie Neushul and Jordan Raney all scored their penalties in the shootout. The U.S. was playing without its captain in Steffens, who was injured in the semifinal victory over Canada.
Kiley Neushul led the Cardinal contingent in scoring in Perth, pouring in 12 goals. Jamie Neushul had 11 in the six games, Steffens nine goals in her five appearances and Raney five scores.
Stone earned the win in the cage in the quarterfinal victory over South Africa and the group-stage win over Japan.
