SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Stanford lightweight rowing concluded its first day of preliminary racing at the San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday.
Racing against openweights crews, the Cardinal varsity eight placed fourth in its heat of the Jessop-Whittier Cup, racing down the course to the time of 6:38.198. Cal's openweight crew took first in the heat with a time of 06:19.254, followed by Texas (06:21.604) and Washington State (06:35.130).
By placing fourth, Stanford will race in tomorrow's B Final of the Jessop-Whittier Cup, which is scheduled for 10:24 a.m. tomorrow.
Stanford's second varsity took second in its heat of the Copley Cup, also racing against openweight crews. Cal took the top spot in the heat with a time of 07:04.069, while Stanford finished at 07:05.301.
With the Cardinal's second-place finish in the heat, the crew will race in the Copley Cup Final tomorrow at 2:08 p.m.
