NEWPORT, R.I. - Stanford sailing reached the finals of the Sperry Women's National Championships and finished the four-day event in 11th-place on Friday.

In the first of three spring Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) national championships, the Cardinal women finished the national finals with 335 points. In the A division, skipper Stephanie Houck and crews Camille White (1-6) and Ashton Borcherding (7-18) were 13th overall with 176 points, including four top-five finishes. Meanwhile, in the B division, skipper Sophia Sole teamed with crews Cassie Obel (1-8), Taylor Kirkpatrick (9-10, 15-16) and White (11-14), were ninth with 159 points.

Stanford reached the finals with a ninth-place finish in the semifinals on Tuesday and Wednesday. The top nine advance and the Cardinal finished earned its place in the two-day final with 237 points. In the A division, Houck and crews White and Kirkpatrick finished ninth with 126 points, while in the B division skipper Sophia Sole and crews Ashton Borcherding and Cassie Obel placed eighth with 111 points. 

The National Championships continue with the Team Race championship on May 25, lasting for three days and the Coed championship on May 28, lasting for four days.
