INDIANAPOLIS – Stanford captured all three of its heat races on Friday in the opening day of the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships at the Indianapolis Rowing Center at Eagle Creek Park. The Cardinal advanced all three entries straight into Saturday's A/B Semifinals.
 
The competition was pushed to the evening after inclement weather overnight left debris on the water. The course was cleared in the late afternoon and the event began at 4 p.m. PT.
 
Racing out of lane six, the varsity eight captured its heat by open water with a time of 6:09.583. The Cardinal advanced straight into the A/B Semifinals along with second-place Michigan (6:15.235) and third-place Rutgers (6:16.728). Harvard (6:20.011), Rhode Island (6:38.980) and Marist (6:42.157) placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
 
Stanford will race in the second A/B Semifinal heat on Saturday at 6:10 a.m. PT.  
 
The second varsity eight captured the victory in its heat with a time of 6:20.693 to move straight into the A/B Semifinals. The Cardinal was joined by Texas (6:21.829) and Wisconsin (6:32.664) in advancing straight into the A/B semifinals. Duke (6:33.850), Iowa (6:41.614) and Marist (7:14.917) rounded out the heat.    
 
The Cardinal will compete in the second A/B Semifinal heat on Saturday, at 6:30 a.m. PT.
 
The varsity four cruised to an open-water win in its heat, completing the course in 7:01.024, to advance into the A/B Semifinals. Twelve seconds behind in second place was Yale (7:12.385). Duke (7:15.157), UCF (7:22.920) and Navy (7:29.022) rounded out the field.  
 
Stanford will race in the second A/B Semifinal heat at 6:50 a.m. PT.
