Morris on MNT for Gold Cup

STANFORD, Calif. – Jordan Morris has been selected to the final 23-player roster for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup by U.S. Men's National Team head coach Gregg Berhalter. The 16-team tournament marks the first official competition for the MNT in the 2022 World Cup cycle.

The team is in Cincinnati for a tournament tune-up against Venezuela on June 9 at 11 a.m. PT broadcast on FOX, UniMas and UDN.

The MNT will begin its quest for a record-tying seventh confederation title when it faces Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and Panama in Group D of the 15th edition of the Gold Cup. The USA kicks off the tournament with its first trip to Minnesota and first meeting against Guyana on Tuesday, June 18 at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minn.

Following that match, the U.S. moves east to face Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday, June 22 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland before closing group play against Panama on Wednesday, June 26 at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan.

Beginning with the inaugural tournament in 1991, the U.S. Men's National Team has won the Concacaf Gold Cup on six occasions, coming away with the confederation title again in 2002, 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2017. In 13 previous editions, the USA is 56-8-9 all-time, advancing to the final a total of 10 times and the semifinals on 13 occasions.

Morris was the hero in the most recent edition of the Gold Cup. He scored the game winner in the 88th minute to propel the U.S. Men's National Team to its sixth tournament title with a 2-1 victory over Jamaica on July 26, 2017 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The strike capped a banner year and a half for the former Stanford All-American, who won championships at the collegiate, professional and international levels in the span of 18 months.

The Seattle Sounders forward was the only U.S. player to appear in all six matches of the 2017 Gold Cup. Morris led the United States with three goals throughout the event and had his first brace for the USMNT in a 3-2 win over Martinique on July 12, 2017.

Morris, who missed the entirety of the 2018 MLS season after tearing his ACL in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals in El Salvador in Feb. 2018, has scored four times for Seattle in 2019.

In 27 career caps for the United States, Morris has started nine times and scored five goals.
