Season In Review

ANOTHER STRONG SEASON ON THE FARM
Stanford completed the 2019 season 19-7 overall, advancing to the NCAA Super Regional round. After earning a pair of 4-0 victories over Fresno State and UC Santa Barbara, the Cardinal dropped a 4-2 decision to Virginia in Charlottesville in the Round of 16.
 
ALL-AMERICAN
Sophomore Axel Geller is an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-America selection, the group announced on Thursday.
 
Geller, Stanford's top player, completed the season ranked No. 15 in the final ITA singles poll. He was a First Team All-Pac-12 selection and a Second Team Pac-12 All-Academic pick. Earlier this month, he was chosen as the ITA's Player to Watch in the Northwest Region.
 
The sophomore owned a top-30 ranking in the ITA poll all season. He completed his second year on The Farm with a 17-7 overall record with a 10-6 mark in dual competition, playing all his matches at the No. 1 spot.
 
Geller also competed at No. 1 doubles, playing primarily with Alexandre Rotsaert. The duo was ranked No. 36 in the season's final ITA poll with an overall record of 13-6 and a dual mark of 10-5.
 
ITA PLAYER TO WATCH
Sophomore Axel Geller was selected as the Northwest region's Player to Watch by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
 
Stanford's top player was chosen as the ITA's Player to Watch in the Northwest and was one of 12 finalists for the national Player to Watch honor.
 
A two-time All-Pac-12 selection, the sophomore earned first team honors this past season. He was ranked in the top-15 of the ITA poll in singles all season earning an invitation to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships for the second consecutive year. Geller is No. 13 in the most recent rankings. He completed his sophomore campaign on The Farm with a 17-8 overall record and a 10-7 mark in dual action as Stanford's No. 1 player. The sophomore provided the clincher in a pair of road wins at No. 45 Oregon and Washington last month.
 
KUMAR NAMED PAC-12 SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Senior Sameer Kumar, who received his degree in economics, boasted a 3.92 cumulative grade point average during his standout career. He was named to Google Cloud Academic All-America third team.
 
The 2019 Pac-12 Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Kumar was a three-time First Team Pac-12 All-Academic selection and a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete. Ranked in the ITA poll, Kumar finished his senior campaign with a team-best 23 wins overall. Kumar's 46 career dual victories ranks 32nd in program history. The senior captain also volunteered with East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring, a learning program for first- through twelfth-grade students from the community that provides academic tutoring, education and tennis instruction.
 
ALL-PAC-12 TRIO
Three members of the Stanford men's tennis program were named to the All-Pac-12 teams. Sophomore Axel Geller was a First Team All-Pac-12 selection, while freshman Alexandre Rotsaert was a second team pick and junior William Genesen was an honorable mention selection.
 
12 TH STRAIGHT NCAA BID
Stanford earned the No. 12 overall seed in the 2019 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships and hosted first and second round matches at Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Stanford received its 12th consecutive and 40th all-time NCAA Championships bid. Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Paul Goldstein, the Cardinal is 19-7 in NCAA play.
 
NCAA SINGLES AND DOUBLES INVITES
Sophomore Axel Geller and freshman Alexandre Rotsaert each earned invitations to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. Geller was selected for the 65-man singles tournament and the 32-team doubles tournament with Rotsaert as his teammate. Geller was unable to participate in the tournament. Rotsaert dropped a first-round decision in the singles tournament.
