STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford earned a spot on the 2018-19 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The Cardinal's team GPA of 3.535 was tied for the 21st best mark among Division I universities last season.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2018-19 season is the 24th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
Stanford was one of two schools to appear on both the WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll and in the organization's final national poll released at the conclusion of the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinal ended its 31-5 season with a No. 7 ranking. DePaul was No. 25 in the coaches' poll and 17th in GPA (3.561).
The Cardinal is the first team to finish in the top 10 of the final national rankings and appear on the WBCA Academic Honor Roll since 2014-15 (Arizona State).
Stanford placed a school-record 10 on Pac-12 all-academic teams last season, surpassing its previous high of eight from 2017. The Cardinal had seven honored in 1988, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Alanna Smith became the program's 10th academic All-American when she was named named to the 2018-19 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I second team. Also the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and an All-American on the court (WBCA, AP, espnW, USBWA), Smith is one of four players in program history to earn both All-America and academic All-America honors along with Chiney Ogwumike, Kristin Folkl and Kate Starbird.
