DES MOINES, Iowa – Valarie Allman, Stanford class of '17, captured her second consecutive national title in the women's discus on Sunday.
Competing at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships, Allman threw 211-1 (64.34 meters) to win and secure a berth on the U.S. team at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar, in Sept. 28-Oct. 6.
Allman pulled all the drama out of the competition with a big first throw and that stood for all six rounds. No one came closer than Kelsey Card's 207-9 (63.33m) on her final throw. This will be Allman's second World Championships appearance. The first was in 2017 in London.
Allman was a seven-time All-America at Stanford, twice placing third at the NCAA Championships and twice winning Pac-12 titles.
