Five Medal at Nationals

STANFORD, Calif. – Five Cardinal combined for seven medals at the Phillips 66 U.S. Nationals, held at Stanford's Avery Aquatic Center, July 31-August 4.

Rising junior Brooke Forde, who returned from the FINA World Championships in South Korea just days prior to the start of the meet, earned a pair of medals. She was third in the 200-meter freestyle at 1:58.75, and earned silver in the 400 individual medley with a finish of 4:41.54.

Rising junior Erin Voss was the silver medalist in the 200 backstroke. Voss finished in 2:10.86 to tie Emma Seiberlich for second place. Rising sophomore Lucie Nordmann was fifth at 2:11.43.

Morgan Tankersley, Voss, Lauren Pitzer and Amalie Fackenthal combined to win silver in the 4x200 free relay. The Cardinal foursome was out-touched by three-tenths with a second-place time of 8:01.71.

 

The team of Ashley Volpenhein, Fackenthal, Anya Goeders and Brooke Stenstrom finished just off the podium with a fourth-place showing in the 4x100 free relay (3:45.26).

In the 4x100 medley relay, Nordmann, Hannah Kukurugya, Fackenthal and Pitzer were eighth with a time of 4:10.21.

A rising senior, Katie Drabot finished seventh in the nation in both butterfly events. In the 100, she touched the wall in 58.43, and in the 200, she finished in 2:08.56, which was a little more than a second behind Regan Smith, who won the event in 2:07.26.

Incoming freshman Alex Crisera was three-hundredths of a second from the A final of the 100 backstroke as she placed ninth in a time of 1:01.06 and then finished seventh in the B final with a time of 1:01.71. The Manhattan Beach native also finished 26th in the nation in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.92, and was 40th in the 50 free at 26.05.

Rising sophomore Zoe Bartel was 14th in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.13), while rising juniors Katie Glavinovich (4:53.81) and Kukurugya (4:54.03) finished 46th and 50th in the 400 individual medley (4:53.81). Rising junior Grace Zhao's was 35th in the 200 breast (2:32.56).

Nordmann also reached the A final and finished sixth in the 100 back (1:00.83). Fackenthal reached the C final in the 50 free, where she finished second (25.65), while Goeders reached the D final and finished eighth (25.80).

Pitzer was also sixth in the 400 free where she finished in 4:08.68 and was first in the B final of the 50 free (25.39). Tankersley was seventh in the 400 free (4:18.00).
