Alumnae Compete in U.S.-Europe Dual

MINSK, Belarus – Five Stanford alumnae will compete in the first track and field dual meet between the United States and Europe, on Monday and Tuesday at Dinamo Stadium.

The American team includes four former Cardinal, all members of Stanford's 2018 NCAA outdoor championships runner-up team. They are Valarie Allman '17 (discus), Olivia Baker '18 (800 meters), Elise Cranny '18 (1,500 and 3,000), and Vanessa Fraser '17 (3,000).

Team Europe features Greek pole vaulter Katerina Stefanidi '12, the reigning Olympic and world champion.

The U.S. coach is Dena Evans '96, a Stanford athlete in track and soccer, who coached the Cardinal to the 2003 NCAA women's cross country title.

The meet serves as a lead-in to the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar, Sept. 27-Oct. 6. That meet includes three Stanford alumnae: Allman, Stefanidi, and 2017 world 400 hurdles champion Kori Carter '14 of the U.S.
