Women's National Team Returns to Maples

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford will host the USA Basketball Women's National Team on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. PT, the first in a series of games announced this summer as part of an expanded training program to aid the United States in its pursuit of a seventh consecutive Olympic gold medal.
 
Season Ticket Members will have priority access to tickets for the game by following the instructions emailed to them by Stanford Athletics. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. PT by visiting gostanford.com/tickets or calling (800)-STANFORD.
 
It will be the Cardinal's fourth meeting with the USA National Team. The two first played on Nov. 10, 1995 when the United States was under the direction of Tara VanDerveer, who would go on to coach that squad to a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. They met again on Nov. 1, 1999 in preparation for the Sydney Games and most recently 12 years ago on Nov. 15, 2007 in advance of the Beijing Games. The previous matchups were all in Maples Pavilion and all wins for Team USA, which has a 39-1 record in its three previous pre-Olympic tours against NCAA competition.
 
The game at Stanford will be the first in a series of 2019 dates for the United States. After visiting The Farm, the U.S. will play at Oregon State on Nov. 4, at Texas A&M on Nov. 7 and at Oregon on Nov. 9. Early in 2020 the United States will compete in a second series of NCAA games, which will be announced at a later date.  
 
As part of its expanded women's national team program, USA Basketball has secured commitments from eight elite athletes from the 2019-20 USA National Team pool to participate in the team's five training segments that will take place between November 2019 and April 2020. Those eight include three-time Stanford All-American and 2016 WNBA MVP Nneka Ogwumike (Los Angeles Sparks) along with Sue Bird (Seattle Storm), Elena Delle Donne (Washington Mystics), Skylar Diggins-Smith (Dallas Wings), Sylvia Fowles (Minnesota Lynx), Chelsea Gray (Los Angeles Sparks), Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury) and A'ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces).
 
The roster for the November college tour will be rounded out by USA National Team members Seimone Augustus (Minnesota Lynx), Layshia Clarendon (Connecticut Sun), Napheesa Collier (Minnesota Lynx) and Kelsey Plum (Las Vegas Aces).
 
Gray will miss the game at Stanford and Plum will miss the first two games due to previous personal commitments.
