COLUMBUS, Ohio - Fueled by Corinne Zanolli's second straight hat trick, No. 16 Stanford knocked off No. 18 Ohio State on Sunday afternoon for its third win in a row.
Navigating through a three-match, four-day road swing, Stanford led 1-0 at halftime before tacking on a pair of insurance goals in the final six minutes.
The Cardinal (9-5, 1-0 America East), which defeated the Buckeyes for the first time since 2003, improved to 4-4 this season against top-25 opponents.
The contest was evenly-matched, with Stanford holding slight advantages in shots (13-12) and penalty corners (6-5).
The difference was Zanolli, who followed up Saturday's hat trick against Ball State with another on Sunday. Zanolli, who has produced three hat tricks this season and six in her career, has now scored 62 goals in 55 career games while cementing her reputation as one of the country's top strikers.
All three goals were made possible following penalty corner opportunities, with Sarah Johnson and Fenella Scutt both contributing two assists.
Zanolli's first goal came in the 20th minute and the Cardinal's stingy defense did the rest behind Kelsey Bing, who made five saves.
Ohio State (6-6, 1-3 Big Ten) avoided the shutout with Emma Goldean's untimed goal before the final whistle.
Stanford wraps up its road trip on Tuesday at No. 5 Louisville.
