DAVIS, Calif. - No. 16 Stanford controlled play throughout in a 3-1 victory at UC Davis on Sunday afternoon.
Closing the regular season with the first of three straight conference games, Stanford raced out to a 3-0 halftime lead and was in command from start to finish despite UC Davis avoiding the shutout with four minutes left.
The Cardinal (10-6, 2-0 America East) received another goal from Corinne Zanolli, who fired off a game-high eight shots. Following a breakthrough sophomore year in which she scored a single-season school-record 26 goals, Zanolli leads the country with 22 scores this season.
Fenella Scutt provided Stanford's second goal, later adding an assist, along with Sarah Johnson.
Lynn Vanderstichele accounted for Stanford's first goal of the afternoon, scoring unassisted through the circle at the 4:35 mark.
Stanford held a 16-10 advantage in shots while UC Davis (6-7, 0-2 America East) owned a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.
Stanford next visits California on Tuesday, Oct. 22, in a 3 p.m. match televised on Pac-12 Network.
